Oral prophylaxis of MK-991 in mice. Mice with latent P. carinii infections were treated with MK-991 once a day for 8 weeks at doses of 6.25, 3.13, 1.56, or 0.78 mg/kg. Treatment began at the start of immunosuppression. The ED₉₀ for cyst reduction was estimated to be 2.25 mg/kg. (The limit of detection was 3.36.)
