Fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS) was associated with a higher severe neonatal morbidity than the absence of FIRS. FIRS was defined as a fetal plasma IL-6 >11 pg/mL. This was calculated using logistic regression to adjust for gestational age and other covariates.
