Age-related changes in neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity in the adult hippocampus (HIPP) is normal, but declines sharply in aging, and patients with MCI and AD, thus increasing the occurrence and development of disease. Synaptic and dendritic spine density, along with neuronal numbers gradually decline. Neurogenesis and some plasticity-related proteins are also associated with the development of AD.
