Translational pipeline. Novel patient mutations causing podocyte injury can be identified by genetic screening. The functional role of these mutations can then be assessed in Drosophila nephrocytes, and applying omics approaches and utilizing sensor fly strains can reveal the involvement of downstream signaling pathways. Potential novel drugs can then be tested in regard to their effect on nephrocytes expressing patient mutations and other organs as well, to investigate the effect on the whole organism.
