^aSterilized or nonsterilized NW soil (10 g) was combined with 10 ml of minimal salts medium and incubated in a DCPD atmosphere for 7 weeks. 

^bSaturated cultures of Q5 (10 μl), LQ30 (20 μl), or both (10 and 20 μl) were added. 

^cPeak areas of oxidized DCPD derivatives (masses indicated in Fig. 6) were combined and converted into micrograms by comparison with the internal standard, p-dichlorobenzene. The results of duplicate experiments agreed within 10%.
