Study protocol. Mechanics of performing the recruitment maneuver (RM) combined with positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP). The RM was manually performed by pressure control continuous mandatory ventilation with a fixed 15 cmH₂O driving pressure for 5 s and a step-by-step PEEP increase of 5 cmH₂O for 3 respiratory cycles up to the target level of 34 cmH₂O.
