Effect of ciprofloxacin (CIP) or ceftazidime (CAZ) exposure on persister cell levels. Mid-log phase cultures of Salmonella enterica (time 0-h) were exposed to a 100-fold MIC of CIP or CAZ for 48 h. At each time point (6, 24, and 48 h), aliquots were collected to determine the fraction of surviving cells. The plotted values represent the mean of three biological replicates, and the error bars denote the standard deviation (± SD).
