Meiotic activation. Resumption of meiosis and ovulation is triggered by luteinizing hormone (LH). LH signaling downregulates the NPPC/NPR2 system causing reduction in cAMP and cGMP levels within the oocyte leading to the phosphorylation of PDE3A and the degradation of cAMP triggering the resumption of meiosis and driving the formation of the first meiotic spindle.
