Exogenous treatment with MigPSY peptides promotes root growth. Arabidopsis Col-0 or tpst-1 mutant seeds were sown on MS media containing either water (mock) or 100 nM of synthetic tyrosine-sulfated peptide derived from the predicted MigPSY mature sequence (black) or just the conserved DYX5-7NXXHXP PSY-like sequence (denoted by -C, blue). AtPSY1 from Arabidopsis and RaxX21 and RaxX13 from Xoo were used as positive controls. Bars represent the mean root length (mm) 9 d after sowing ±SEM of at least 17 seedlings, shown as individual dots (Top). Statistical significance was analyzed using Tukey’s multiple comparisons test with different letters representing significant differences (P ≤ 0.05). Representative seedlings are shown in the bottom panel (Scale bar: 1 cm). Data represent one of three independent experiments with similar results.
