Aperture disparities. (A) Stereogram of an oblique line segment with horizontal disparity behind a segmented occluder. (B) Combined left- and right-eye views show that the portion of the line segment visible within each aperture has a disparity direction determined by the orientation of the aperture. (C) Combined images from a different stereogram can produce identical within-aperture patterns from a line segment with an arbitrarily different disparity direction, in this case vertical rather than horizontal.
