Stereo plaids. Two schematic plaids with horizontal disparity are shown with left- and right-eye images superimposed. The oblique lines represent sinusoidal components; the perpendicular separation between the adjacent parallel lines of each eye gives the wavelength. Given the component orientations, equal component phase disparities (ϕ) across the two plaids correspond to horizontal pattern disparities with a ratio of 1:1.93. This approximates the ratio found for horizontal disparity thresholds for the two plaids.
