VI = visual impairment.

Based on United States definition—visual impairment was defined as visual acuity < 20/40, based on better-seeing eye. Include subjects with low vision or blindness at baseline who remained status quo over 6 years and those with low vision at baseline who deteriorated to blindness over 6 years.
