Anxiety disorder domains and definitions

Definition
Generalised anxiety disorder* Generalised and persistent anxiety but not restricted to, or strongly predominating in, any specific circumstances
Panic/agoraphobia*

Panic: recurrent attacks of severe anxiety

Agoraphobia: a well-defined cluster of phobias embracing various fears such as leaving home, entering shops, public places and crowds, or travelling alone via buses, trains or planes

Social phobia* Fear of scrutiny by other individuals resulting in avoidance of social situations
Separation anxiety disorder* Fear of separation constitutes the main focus of the anxiety
Obsessive compulsive disorder* The essential feature is recurrent obsessional thoughts or compulsive acts
Physical injury fears A type of specific phobia in which the fear is driven by irrational worrying about experiencing physical harm or injury
