Phylogeny was inferred based on rickettsial ompB fragments using the neighbor-joining method. GenBank accession numbers are followed by species and country names at each terminal taxon. A group of sequences of Rickettsia lusitaniae (MN629485), Rickettsia australis (CP003338), and Rickettsia akari (AF123707) were taken as outgroups using 1000 bootstrap values at each node.
