Cells were isolated from total lung tissue by enzymatic digestion on days 3 and 4 postinfection as described in Materials and Methods.

Absolute cell numbers per lung were determined using a known concentration of fluorescent counting beads as described in Materials and Methods.

Mean value from three replicate experiments. Experimental means were tested for significance by the two-tailed Student t test. All P values were ≤0.05 except for day 4 CD3/CD8 and B220, which were 0.08 and 0.06, respectively.
