Engineered models to study prostate cancer. Tissue-engineered models provide both tunability and complexity, enabling the study of the role of the tumor microenvironment through interrogation of cell–matrix interactions and crosstalk between cancer cells and resident tissue cells. Common approaches in engineered models aim to model bone composition and biophysical properties, the metastatic potential of cancer cells through biological mediated regulation of substrate degradation, and the incorporation of other contributing cells to understand their influence on tumorigenesis and metastasis.
