A schematic overview of molecular pathways regulating cardiomyocyte proliferation. Endocrine factors including thyroid hormone, glucocorticoid, and vitamin D inhibit cardiomyocyte proliferation. Neural signals from sympathetic nervous system inhibit cardiomyocyte proliferation whereas those from parasympathetic nervous system promote proliferation.
