a, FIBA was applied to all aging models to assess peripheral versus central contributions to brain aging and cognitive decline (CDR-Global dementia rating). For each aging model, proteins were assessed for their contributions to the age gap association with cognition (CDR-Global, y-axis) and chronological age prediction accuracy (x-axis). Proteins for which permutation reduces the age gap association with cognition were termed FIBA+ , while proteins for which permutation strengthens the age gap association with dementia were termed FIBA-. FIBA+ proteins were used to train new cognition-optimized aging models from healthy individuals in the Knight-ADRC cohort. FIBA results for all aging models are shown in alphabetical order.
