Experimentally induced splits localize below the lamina densa. Electron microscopic examination of a lesional skin biopsy from a diseased mouse demonstrates that the blister roof contains the lamina densa (LD) bordered by basal keratinocytes (BK) with hemidesmosomes (HD) (arrows).
