^aGrowth tests were carried out on AMS plates containing the indicated combinations of amino acid(s) (0.2%), ammonium (10 mM), and mannitol (10 g/liter) (see Materials and Methods). Colony size was determined after 3 days of incubation at 30°C. Growth on Glu, Lys, Ile, and Leu was similar to that on Gln.
