Main result of the primary Lmer model (Eq. (3)): the response (z-score, derived from FDI-MEP-amplitude, see methods) is significantly higher in high condition than in low condition on the group level (blue). This varies on the individual level, as shown by the individual mean responses (black dots): Three participants have a difference of mean response to the conditions that is opposite to the expected. The confidence intervals of the fit are given in light blue, whereas the standard deviations are not given for the individual responses. As ResponseFDI is a z-score, these standard-deviations are all around 1 – contrast this with the very small effect.
