S. parasanguinis colonizes the mammalian lung. (A) Rat infection scheme. Rats were inoculated intranasally with or without S. parasanguinis (SP) or 1 mM nitrite. Eight hours later, rats were inoculated with or without P. aeruginosa (PA) or nitrite. After 24 hours, rats were sacrificed for downstream experiments.
