Criteria for appraising studies of diagnostic tests

Does the study include an independent, blind comparison with an adequate reference standard? Did the sample include an appropriate spectrum of patients to whom the test should be applied in practice? Did the test result influence the decision to perform the reference standard? What are the results, and what is the precision of the results? Will the test help in caring for patients?
