Table 2.

Effects of curcumin on As3+-induced ROS formation in rat hepatocytes

Incubation time with curcumin Addition
60 min 30 min 15 min
97±8 65±7 56±9 Control rat hepatocytes
279±13a 266±8a 255±11a +As3+ (50 µM)
217±21b 295±13b 277±19 + Curcumin (10 µM)
254±19 248±16 239±14 + Curcumin (5 µM)
168±12b 142±7b 116±8b + Curcumin (2 µM)

Hepatocytes (106 cells/ml) were incubated in Krebs–Henseleit buffer (pH 7.4) at 37◦C for 1 hr following the addition of As3+ at EC50, 2hr. DCF formation was expressed as fluorescent intensity units. Values are expressed as mean±SD of three separate experiments (n=3).a Significant difference in comparison with the control hepatocytes (p<0.05).b Significant difference in comparison with the As3+-treated hepatocytes (p<0.05).
