Putative annotation in compound class was done by comparing accurate masses with the KNApSAcK database. Metabolites analysis was based on three replicates of each sample (Student-T Test with equal variation; P < 0.05, FoldChange > 1.5 or < − 1.5). ‘>>’, not present in non-induced leaves; ‘<<’, absent in induced leaves; ‘–’ abundance was not significantly different
