^aEnzyme activities in extracts of cells grown aerobically or anaerobically in DS medium supplemented with 0.1% glucose, 0.2% KNO₃, and 20 mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) and harvested 1 h after the end of exponential growth were determined (see Materials and Methods). Specific activities of CS, ACN, and ICDH were calculated as micromoles of CoA produced per minute per milligram of protein, nanomoles of cis-aconitate produced per minute per milligram of protein, and nanomoles of NADPH produced per minute per milligram of protein, respectively. The data are averages of values obtained in two experiments.
