a

P. putida DOT-T1E cells were grown (A) on M9 minimal medium with glucose or glycerol as the sole C source in the absence and in the presence of toluene supplied via the gas phase (g) (preparation A) or on LB medium in the absence and in the presence of different organic solvents supplied via the gas phase (preparation B).

b

Accumulation of 1,2,4-[14C]trichlorobenzene, assayed as described in Materials and Methods. The data are the averages of at least three independent determinations with standard deviations in the range of 10 to 20% of the given values.
