Fig. 2. — Timetable for the experiment. First, the concentration of the generated droplets was measured for 1 min as the subject vocalized without wearing any protector. The protector was then attached, after waiting for a predetermined interval to allow the background aerosol concentration in the room to stabilize. The droplet concentration was then measured at two locations: one at a distance of about 10 cm from the front of the subject’s mouth (front), the other at a distance of about 10 cm from a gap in the side of the protector (side). Finally, the droplet concentration was measured again as the subject vocalized without wearing the protector.
