This photograph of H&E-stained tissue reveals the epidermis and partial dermis. The different cellular components can be visualized: epidermal stratum corneum (a), epidermal stratum spinosum (b), epidermal stratum basale (c), and dermis containing fibroblasts (d). The stratum spinosum and stratum basale in the control group (2) show minor apoptosis (black arrow). No necrosis is shown in any of the groups.
