There are various imitators of preeclampsia that can impact the liver and are important to distinguish from preeclampsia as their treatment modalities vary greatly. These other disease processes include thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura and hemolytic uremic syndrome, acute fatty liver of pregnancy, systemic lupus erythematous exacerbation, and catastrophic antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.
