An insertional mutation in chiA abolishes endochitinase activity in V. cholerae 569B. Production of chitinase activity was measured by culturing wild-type (569B) and mutant [569B(chiA::Kanr)] V. cholerae strains on EGC agar. E. coli DH5αF′tet cells containing pTDCC2 and the phagemid vector pBluescriptKS− served as positive and negative controls, respectively.
