Mitochondrial health and epigenetic regulation of brain plasticity. Growing literature showed that mitochondrial metabolism can regulate histone modifications among other epigenetic mechanisms. A central tenant of this signaling pathway is acetyl-L-carnitine (LAC), a novel epigenetic modulator of brain plasticity and a therapeutic target for clinical phenotypes of depression linked to childhood trauma
