(a) In a mouse and a human PC model (same as in Fig. 4), 50 pf (red dots) and 25 SC synapses (green dots) were randomly distributed on the dendritic tree36. The stimulation pattern was composed of pf synapses activated with 5 impulses at 100 Hz followed by SC synapses activated with 3 impulses at 142 Hz after 4 ms36. Both models generate a burst/pause response that is evident in the raster plots and PSTHs. Note that the pause is more marked when inhibition is active. (b) The graphs show the modulation of burst and pauses by the number of active SC synapses for the same PCs shown in A. Both in mouse and human PCs, SCs curtail the burst and prolong the pause in a monotonic dose-dependent manner.
