Pro-inflammatory cytokines of PCLS are increased in an age-dependent manner upon infection with P. aeruginosa. PCLS were infected with P. aeruginosa PAO1 or D61 for 8 h. Supernatants and lysates of technical duplicates (Ctrl) or triplicates (PAO1 and D61) were pooled and cytokine levels were measured. The sum of extrinsic and intrinsic protein levels of TNF-α (A), IL-1β (B), IL-6 (C), CCL3 (D), CCL20 (E), CXCL1 (F), and IL-17A (G) is depicted in relation to the total amount of protein. * p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01, *** p < 0.001, compared with respective control (Ctrl) within one age group. # p < 0.05, ## p < 0.01, between the two age groups.
