When two strain numbers are indicated, these represent derivatives of PK3772 and PK3872, respectively. The only difference between these strains is that PK3872 is a leu+ thr+ derivative of PK3772 (Table 1), and no significant difference in recombination frequencies was observed between these two backgrounds. Therefore, experiments conducted in these different backgrounds were pooled for the purpose of averaging.
