Methods	Location and time frame: Sri Lanka, November 2014 to May 2015 Design: RCT, no blinding
Participants	86 women Inclusion criteria: planned vaginal delivery, desire for copper IUD insertion Exclusion criteria: contraindications for IUD insertion including infection, hemorrhage, and cesarean delivery
Interventions	Copper IUD Treatment: immediate insertion (within 10 minutes of placenta delivery) Comparison: standard insertion (6 to 8 weeks postpartum)
Outcomes	Retention of IUD Assessment times: 12 hours after insertion; 6 to 8 weeks postpartum
