Shown are XYZ maximum projections of example PSFs taken at different FOV positions in different immersion media ranging from air and water to fused silica matching oil (FS Oil, Cargille 50350), and Type A oil (Cargille 16482). In general, the PSF size decreases with index as the increased NA leads to higher resolution. However, beyond n = 1.45, there is no change in resolution. We attribute this to residual aberrations from the minimally refractive inner surface of the correction plate: As the correction plate is made of fused silica with n = 1.45, manufacturing-related surface irregularities have no effect at this index.
