Potential positive and negative aspects for the onset and progression of ALS. Many factors are thought to influence the onset and progression of ALS. Among them, positive aspects such as higher alcohol consumption, higher BMI and active intake of Vitamin E are believed to delay the progression of the disease and are associated with longer survival. In contrast, negative aspects such as exposure to heavy metals and pesticides, smoking and playing football are thought to accelerate the progression of the disease and are closely related to poor prognosis.
