Potential therapeutic strategies based on brain-gut-microbiota axis for ALS. Potential therapeutic strategies for ALS include supplementation with probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics and FMT. Based on the association of the brain-gut-microbiota axis with ALS, regulating the intestinal microbial composition or interfering with the microbiota metabolites can improve the pathology of ALS and delay disease progression by regulating the neural, immune and endocrine pathways. To date, most relevant studies have been conducted on animal models. The conversion between the research results on animal models and the treatment effect of human patients still needs to be further investigated.
