Ancestral karyotypes and conserved syntenic blocks for marsupial chromosomes. (A) The ancestral marsupial karyotype is composed of 18 conserved autosomal blocks (left, colored key) and one sex chromosome block found in all marsupials as suggested by [135]. (B) Ancestral dasyurid karyotype, 2n = 14, and derived Sminthopsis crassicaudata karyotype, 2n = 14. (C) Ancestral macropodiform, 2n = 22, and derived N. eugenii karyotypes, 2n = 16.
