Recovery of viable R. rickettsii from human endothelial cells treated with α-lipoic acid. Infected HUVEC were collected as described in Materials and Methods, and 1 ml of each 10−2 to 10−5 10-fold serial dilution was inoculated, in triplicate, in 22-mm-diameter wells. Plaques were counted on day 7 after inoculation following staining with 0.3% neutral red. The data are presented as means ± standard errors (for 15 to 18 wells for each treatment condition).
