Positioning for palpation. Patient positioning was the basis for the palpation technique used in this study. To palpate the left thyroid lobe, the cat's chin was raised at a 45° angle and turned 45° to its right. The clinician's left index finger was placed in the groove between the trachea and the muscles to its left at the level of the larynx. The finger was moved downward to the cat's thoracic inlet.
