IL-10 production induced by B. burgdorferi in PBMC from healthy human donors. PBMC (3 × 106/ml) from each individual were incubated with supplemented medium (RPMI), heat-killed JD1 (106 spirochetes/ml), or PHA (10 μg/ml). Levels of IL-10 mRNA were determined by RT-PCR after 24 h of culture (A), or IL-10 production in the supernatant was determined by ELISA after 48 h of culture (B).
