Expression of monokine mRNAs in peritoneal macrophages of mice infected with E. coli. The peritoneal macrophages were obtained from five C3H/HeJ or C3H/HeN mice 3 days after inoculation with E. coli (10⁸ CFU/mouse). Total RNA extracted from the pooled macrophages was reverse transcribed into cDNA and amplified by PCR with each cytokine-specific primer. The results are representative of those from three independent experiments.
