The effects of Aβ25-35 on glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione transferase (GT), catalase, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities in young and old RBCs. Cells were incubated at 25°C for 30 minutes in 10 mmol/L potassium phosphate buffer, pH 7.4, containing 0.9% NaCl, 5 mmol/L KCl, and 10 μmol/L Aβ25-35. Controls were incubated with nontoxic Aβ35-25. Then enzyme activity was determined in the hemolysate; n = 4 to 13. Significant differences are indicated: *P < .05, **P < .01, and ***P < .001 as compared with young RBCs; + P < .05 as compared with Aβ-treated young cells (one-way analysis of variance [ANOVA] with Bonferroni’s multiple comparison test).
