Comorbidity reflects whether the patients ever have been treated for any of these diseases. Missing values mean that the participant has not answered the question whether they have had the disease or not in the questionnaire. Gastrointestinal symptoms were assessed by the Visual Analog Scale for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, 0–100 mm, where 0 represents no symptoms and 100 maximal symptoms [20]. Reference values for VAS-IBS from healthy women are shown within brackets [21]. Values are given as number and percentages or median and interquartile ranges.
