All ORF designations, except the previously known genes of the capsular antigen operon and the murine toxin (black square), are putative and derived from database matches. The map was derived from the annotated DNA sequence by the computer program GeneScene, under development at DNASTAR, and edited in Adobe Illustrator 7. Nomenclature of the ORFs is as indicated in Table 1.
