a

For the pnt1/PNT1 × pnt1/PNT1 cross, F1 progeny were scored directly by counting mutant embryos in the upper and lower halves of the silique. For pnt1/PNT1 × PNT1/PNT1 and PNT1/PNT1 × pnt1/PNT1 crosses, the genotype of F1 plants was ascertained by scoring the segregation of F2 mutant embryos in the siliques of selfed F1 plants.

b

Expected segregation for a recessive nuclear gene with normal transmission.
