Modulation refers to the swept parameter. Disparity modulation of a DRDS was between zero and varying levels of crossed disparity. Blur/contrast modulation involved contrast or blur modulation of a zero-disparity DRDS. Manipulation indicates the parameter that was varied across conditions. Different experiments used different spatial configurations. The spatial configuration of the disparity field varied over a full-field modulation of disparity (plane) or disparity gratings of differing cyclopean spatial frequencies.
