Values are grouped according to treatment regime rather than experimental group. $S_1$ applies to all 26 rats prior to ovariectomy and to Sham rats at all times. $S_2$ applies to rats having undergone ovariectomy but have not been treated with Zoledronic acid. This includes 16 rats: 7 OVX rats post ovariectomy and 9 OVX-Zol rats post ovariectomy but prior to treatment. $S_3$ only applies to the 9 OVX + Zol after treatment commenced. Values are mean ± SD
